It was a tensed game inside the main bowl of Dipo Dina International Stadium on Wednesday afternoon but high-flying Buruj Sports Academy dumped out their round of 16 opponents J-Doppy Academy out of ongoing Frank Peters Annual Competition 2-0 through penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Kido Patrick emerged as the hero for the Buruj Boys after he prevented the opponent shooters from scoring any of their 3 penalties while Dozie Stanley and Michael Seriki despatched their own with amazing ease and style. The match had ended goalless in regulation time but had the young Buruj Boys convert some of the numerous chances that came their way, it wouldn’t have extended to the extremely tensed end. Yet, the players, many of whom have already been tipped for national team assignment in the nearest future kept their nerves to past the test to move into the quarter finals.
The recent results like their fine win over FCBescola, the Barcelona Academy in Nigeria, who they beat 4-0 in a friendly match and their opening match of the competition against Abuja-based Jay1 Academy which they won by 2-1 are clear testimony that the team is gelling well ahead of their European trip early next year and the CEO Dr. Salaudeen Waheed and Head Coach Ishola Shuaibu are already looking forward to bigger feats from the boys in the ongoing competition and foreign trips.
Meanwhile, the management have said there is still more areas to be beefed up and new players who may come forward for registration will be considered for places.
